The Military Humvee: A living icon
|
|
If you are someone that has been in the army, then I am guessing that you are kind of familiar with the Military hummer. This is a car that has been designed in the 80 when the army was in dire need of a car that will help them with their missions in the different parts of the globe that they would travel. When it was designed, it appeared to be like a boxy car and even though it was not one of the best looking cars, it was surely one car that was meant to enter in history.
There were more than two hundred and forty five thousand Hummers produced since the eighties and it is no doubt that they have served the military a lot. The army has thus dubbed it in time as the “army humvee” and you will be able to see a machine gun on top of it which is operated by a soldier that slips up through an open vent.
The car is also armored with different materials, that range from Kevlar to even specially and top secret armor plates that are designed by the US government in order for the car to even withstand the blow of a tank an anti tank missile. The modified versions of the car will also be likely to use more fuel than a normal Hummer, sometimes even eating up as much as double of what a normal Hummer would use.
The weight of it also varies depending on the type of armor that is employed don it and the type of machine guns. Yet it is not a rare sight to see a Hummer that weighs over 3 tons. When it comes to the 4 speed automatic transmission, you should know that it is optional. When it comes to the 2010 H3 model, it was able to accelerate from a pit stop from zero to sixty miles per hour in just eleven seconds.
The engine is a V8 five point three liters that stacks three hundred horse power. With it under its hood, the Hummer is able to reach sixty miles per hour in just eight point eight seconds.
As such, the army Hummer has been in history for quite while now, yet even though it has served the army very well until now, rumor has it that it will become a relic soon, as there are other projects for better cars to be used in the army on their way to reaching production status soon.
